English for Agriculture II

English for Agriculture II is a course designed for intermediate to proficiency level English students working in agribusiness or agriculture. The focus is on building vocabulary, improving presentation skills and listening and writing fluency. The course covers a broad range of topics including:

  • The definition and origin of agribusiness
  • Food security, self-sufficiency and land use
  • Soil quality
  • Organic farming methods
  • Agribusiness marketing
  • Products and strategies
  • Rural economies and financial management
  • Food safety
  • EU agricultural policy
  • Agribusiness strategy in the 21st century
  • The impact of environmental issues
  • The good agribusiness: company performance – the SWOT analysis

Topics in the vocabulary focus include:

  • Words in general English with a special meaning in agribusiness and agriculture
  • Fixed phrases from agribusiness
  • Words and phrases related to environmental issues

Other skills areas included in the course are report writing, making effective contributions to seminars and conferences and listening comprehension. Also, activities will be used in the lessons to encourage the students to activate their oral skills.
